•If arriving by air, plan a taxi or airport transfer to your accommodation; confirm the best option after booking your arrival.
Day 1

Rome

Plan and flexible time

Use the selected plan as the day’s main anchor and keep the remaining time flexible for rest, meals or a nearby activity.

Morning
3–4 hours

Villa Borghese is Rome at its most spacious, with shaded gardens, museum culture, and wide promenades that feel made for a gentler first morning. You get a mix of clipped landscaping, open lawns, and elevated viewpoints, so kids can move while adults still feel immersed in the city.

Afternoon
Stay local and relax

Use the open time for rest, a leisurely meal or a short nearby activity only when weather and energy support it.

Getting around

Villa Borghese start: Use a short taxi, ride-hail, or bus/Metro connection from Prati & Vatican to reach Villa Borghese comfortably, then explore the gardens on foot. Return by the same low-effort local modes; no car is needed for this day.

Day 2

Rome

Full sightseeing day

Use the morning and afternoon plans as the day’s two anchors, with time between them for transportation, meals and breaks.

Morning
4–5 hours

The Colosseum and Roman Forum area is Rome’s most concentrated window into imperial power, where monumental ruins sit in plain view beside modern streets. The scale of the arches, broken columns, and hilltop remains gives children a vivid sense of ancient life, even before any guide commentary.

Afternoon
1.5–2.5 hours

Monti has a lived-in Roman feel, with narrow streets, small shops, and a slower afterglow once you leave the ruins behind. The neighborhood’s stone facades and easygoing café rhythm give a useful contrast to the morning’s grand monuments.

Getting around

Centro storico transit: Move between the Colosseum area and Monti by Metro, taxi, or a short walk depending on energy, with the sightseeing mostly on foot once you arrive. This is a compact city day with no need for a car.

Day 3

Rome

Full sightseeing day

Use the morning and afternoon plans as the day’s two anchors, with time between them for transportation, meals and breaks.

Morning
4–5 hours

Vatican City and St Peter’s place Rome’s spiritual and artistic authority in one tightly packed district, with basilica, square, and museums all carrying enormous weight. The experience mixes grandeur and crowd energy: domes, colonnades, polished interiors, and the ceremonial sweep of St Peter’s Square.

Afternoon
3–4 hours

Pantheon and Piazza Navona show Rome at street level, where ancient engineering and Baroque theater sit only a few minutes apart. The Pantheon’s dome and oculus feel astonishingly intact, while Piazza Navona opens into fountains, façades, and the bustle of one of the city’s classic public spaces.

Getting around

Vatican and center: The Vatican morning is easy from Prati & Vatican, then cross to Pantheon and Piazza Navona by taxi, bus, or a manageable walk if everyone is fresh. Keep the day car-free and expect the afternoon to be more crowded.

Day 4

Rome

Plan and flexible time

Use the selected plan as the day’s main anchor and keep the remaining time flexible for rest, meals or a nearby activity.

Morning
Half day+

Tivoli’s villas turn a Rome day trip into a landscape of gardens, ruins, and waterworks rather than a single monument stop. Villa d’Este is the standout for its fountains and terraced design, while Villa Gregoriana and Hadrian’s Villa add dramatic terrain and imperial scale.

Afternoon
Stay local and relax

Use the open time for rest, a leisurely meal or a short nearby activity only when weather and energy support it.

Getting around

Ground connection and local walking: Arrange ground transport from Prati & Vatican to Tivoli Villas and back. Walking applies within each stop after you arrive; confirm the road or transit connection in advance.

Day 5

Rome

Full sightseeing day

Use the morning and afternoon plans as the day’s two anchors, with time between them for transportation, meals and breaks.

Morning
3–4 hours

Trastevere and the Tiber River give Rome a more intimate, textured side, where medieval lanes, church façades, and river crossings shape the atmosphere. The cobbled streets and lively edges around Santa Maria in Trastevere make the neighborhood feel lived-in rather than ceremonial, while Tiber Island adds a distinct river landmark in the middle of the city.

Afternoon
2–3 hours

Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps give you Rome’s most photographed urban scene in a tight afternoon circuit. The fountain’s theatrical sculpture and the stepped piazza at Spanish Steps create a dramatic contrast between water, stone, and people-watching.

Getting around

Central Rome wandering: Use short walks, taxis, or buses between Trastevere, the Tiber, Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps, keeping the day flexible and compact. The route is best done without a car, with brief hops only when the kids need a break.

Transfer between cities

Rome → Amalfi Coast

Train + transferAbout 3 hr 40 min to 4 hr 30 min door to door

Take rail to Naples or Salerno, then continue by prearranged transfer or local connection to Sorrento. This is the best balance of comfort and practicality for a family, with less fatigue than a full drive and less hassle than managing Rome traffic to the coast.

•Book the rail segment and the final transfer together if possible so the handoff is smooth.
•Keep luggage manageable for one rail change and the final road transfer, and allow time for station platforms and transfers.
•A through-rental is possible, but it is usually not worth keeping a car for central Rome parking and coastal traffic friction.
•Arrival should still leave time for a relaxed first walk in Sorrento if the trip stays on schedule.
Transportation in Amalfi Coast

Some selected outings need ground transport from Sorrento Historic Center & Marina. Plan those connections separately from walking within each stop.

Day 6

Amalfi Coast

Transfer day

Travel from Rome to Amalfi Coast, check in and preserve a comfortable buffer around the selected plan.

Morning
Travel and check in

Use this time for the move to Amalfi Coast, luggage and hotel check-in, leaving a comfortable buffer before the next plan.

Afternoon
2–4 hours

Sorrento’s old town and marina combine cliffside town life with a working-waterfront feel, which gives the afternoon a relaxed coastal rhythm. Piazza Tasso, the Villa Comunale, and Marina Piccola show three different moods in one compact area: town square, overlook, and harbor.

Getting around

Arriving in Sorrento: After arrival, keep the day local and easy in Sorrento Old Town and Marina Piccola. Walk the center and waterfront once you are checked in, with no need for a car inside town.

Day 7

Amalfi Coast

Full sightseeing day

Use the morning and afternoon plans as the day’s two anchors, with time between them for transportation, meals and breaks.

Morning
3–5 hours

Capri Town pairs glamorous harbor arrivals with one of the most famous island viewpoints in Italy, so the morning feels both social and scenic. The Piazzetta, Via Camerelle, and Augustus Gardens give you the island’s signature mix of polished streets, boutique energy, and sweeping sea vistas.

Afternoon
3–5 hours

Anacapri and Monte Solaro shift the island experience upward, from the glamour of the town center to broader views and a quieter hill-town feel. The chairlift, Villa San Michele, and the belvedere viewpoints turn the afternoon into a landscape-focused visit with plenty of sky and coastline.

Getting around

Ground connection and local walking: Arrange ground transport from Sorrento Historic Center & Marina to the selected stops and back. Walking applies within each stop after you arrive; confirm the road or transit connection in advance.

Day 8

Amalfi Coast

Full sightseeing day

Use the morning and afternoon plans as the day’s two anchors, with time between them for transportation, meals and breaks.

Morning
2–4 hours

Positano’s Spiaggia Grande and upper lanes give the Amalfi Coast its most recognizable village-and-sea composition. The steep streets, church dome, and beach frontage create the layered look that people picture when they imagine the coast.

Afternoon
2–3 hours

Ravello feels calmer and more elevated than the coast below, with villas and belvederes that turn the afternoon into a sequence of terraces and views. Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone are the essential stops, each offering gardens, architecture, and famous outlooks across the coastline.

Getting around

Ground connection and local walking: Arrange ground transport from Sorrento Historic Center & Marina to the selected stops and back. Walking applies within each stop after you arrive; confirm the road or transit connection in advance.

Day 9

Amalfi Coast

Plan and flexible time

Use the selected plan as the day’s main anchor and keep the remaining time flexible for rest, meals or a nearby activity.

Morning
2–4 hours

Herculaneum offers one of the clearest Roman ruin experiences in Campania, with preserved streets, houses, and waterfront evidence that feel remarkably immediate. The Archaeological Park, House of the Deer, and the ancient shoreline show daily life in a way that complements Pompeii rather than repeating it.

Afternoon
Stay local and relax

Use the open time for rest, a leisurely meal or a short nearby activity only when weather and energy support it.

Getting around

Ground connection and local walking: Arrange ground transport from Sorrento Historic Center & Marina to Herculaneum & Ercolano and back. Walking applies within each stop after you arrive; confirm the road or transit connection in advance.

Amalfi Coast

Plan and flexible time

Use the selected plan as the day’s main anchor and keep the remaining time flexible for rest, meals or a nearby activity.

Morning
2–3 hours

The Minori–Maiori seafront gives the Amalfi Coast a gentler, more everyday shoreline mood than the cliff villages above. The promenades, beach edges, and access to the Path of the Lemons make the morning feel open and easy to read, while the Roman Villa in Minori adds a historic layer to the waterfront.
